CubeQuest! Final- Level 5 - Pumpkin Peak and End!
This final level is Pumpkin Peak! Unlike the other levels, there is no bouncing in this level. In addition, it's also very straightforward. Pumpkin Peak is a large maze like level where you simply have to find all of the cubes.
A long fall will take you into the level.
Pumpkin Peak has a topdown view to make navigating through the maze easy. You can find walls by rolling into them to figure out where you are.
Large gravestones can be viewed throughout the path. This spooky level is a callback to my 2DRPG, which was also monster-themed.
Check every area- some cubes are hidden away in small nook and crannies.
A little graveyard can be viewed at the end. Once you collect the final cube and beat this level...
You go to The End, which features a little level. There is only a single cube.
Touching the single cube will reset the game. This is the end of the game! I had a blast making it!
CubeQuest! Final- Level Four- Red Rock Canyon
Don't let the small cube count fool you- though it has the least cubes of any level, Red Rock Canyon is probably the hardest map. Like the previous level, this level tests your ability to test and control your bounce…to the limit. Red Rock Canyon is a vertical ascent to the top of a mountain, which will put your bounce control, roll control, and faith in the ball to the test.
There are a few easy cubes on the ground to get you started...
The path is very large on Red Rock Canyon, but still stay away from the edges- one bad move and it's a long fall to the bottom of the level.
The vertical ascent is very steep, but have faith in the ball. It can roll and bounce up steep paths, and if you can reset your bounces, you'll be able to make it!
If you're rolling hard enough, the ball can roll over these walls. Have faith in the ball, it is much more powerful than it looks. Once again, the starry path is present to help guide you up the mountain rather than off of it.
The top of the mountain. A hard level, but you can do it!
CubeQuest! Final- Level Three- Abandoned Lab
Level Three is the Abandoned Lab- an old military testing facility in the mountains. The ball now resembles an orb of toxic waste. This level has 20 cubes to collect, but a lot of them are in obvious spots. This level tests your ability to maneuver, as well as your ability to find.
Old turrets ominously watch you bounce around. The green waste spill leads you around the map. Most cubes can be found on or near the green waste.
This level starts testing your ability to control your bounce. Some of the blocks are in the air, so you'll have to bounce off of walls to bounce higher. While this will make you bounce higher, by carefully timing your bounces into walls, you can raise and lower the height of your bounce…
You can even bounce into the old turrets for fun!
The end of the level is a large clearing with peaks, turrets, and many cubes. A massive laser towers over the level.
CubeQuest! Final- Level 2- Snowman Mountain
Level Two is Snowman Mountain- a snow peak that is filled to the brim with happy snowmen. This level has less cubes to collect than the first level, but they are along a long, windy path where you must bounce to connect them.
This level introduces the bounce mechanic- you can bounce through the level- the longer you fall, the higher you bounce. Bouncing is fun, but can be inconvenient- if your bounce is out of control, hit space to restart the level.
A giant snowman waves to you at the end of the level. Nearby is the last cube on the path. In case you get lost, follow the green stars- they'll lead you to the end of the level, or at least to more cubes. If you're missing a cube, try finding every green star on the map.
An example of a green star is below. Just beyond, near that snowman, is a cube- a faint outline of a green star can be seen near it.
CubeQuest! Final Game- Level 1 Grassy Park
My game is called CubeQuest! The object of the game is to go through varying landscapes as your player (Roller), who must collect all spheres in an area to proceed. By mastering your abilities to bounce, roll, and maneuver through a variety of different landscapes, you can win the game.
Controls are arrow keys/wasd to move, and space bar to reset the game. If your bounce is too out of control or if you fall of the map, you can reset the game.
Level 1 is known as Grassy Park. It features some aspects to get you started with the game. There is a grassy pathway that you must roll along to collect the cubes, as well as a terrain field where you must search for them.
As you can see, as you collect cubes, it counts how many you have remaining. In Grassy Park, there are small benches made in Maya that your ball can roll and rest on (if you want to take a short break).
More benches…
Not all of the blocks are so easy to find. They can be behind rocks, and behind shadows. In larger levels, the blocks are either larger or have paths to lead you to them.
